Completion of Stage 2 of the Karratha Senior High School building program has allowed our students the opportunity to learn in a state-of-the-art public education facility.
This new facility includes several new buildings for students in Years 7 to 12 and caters for the move of Year 7 students into secondary education. Teaching spaces in the buildings have been designed with learning areas that are clustered around central activity areas in flexible configurations regulated by sliding glazed walls.
Extensive verandahs provide protection from our extreme climate and windows at roof level provide natural light and ventilation. The new Administration and Student Wellbeing blocks, library, cafeteria and five teaching blocks will be enjoyed by all. The five teaching blocks encompass English and Humanities & Social Sciences, Mathematics and Science, Materials Technology, Food and Textiles, and the Arts. Our students also have access to the City of Karratha Leisureplex as part of our Health & Physical Education program.
This shared use facility will provide automatic access to the Recreation Centre, undercover multi-purpose courts, a full size Australian Football League (AFL) oval, a fully functional football (soccer) pitch, along with the aquatic centre and other sporting areas when required. To have access to such state of the art facilities right next door is unprecedented in schools in regional Western Australia.
Wireless technologies will allow our teachers and students to use laptops and mobile devices. Each classroom will have information technology such as a data projector, interactive whiteboards and smart televisions to further enhance learning and to ensure teaching methods are current, relevant, engaging and more importantly, cater for each student.
