BYOD

Bring your own device

The integration of ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) refers to students bringing a personally owned device to school for the purpose of learning. Karratha Senior High School (KSHS) encourages all students to have their own device. KSHS recognises the need to prepare students for a rapidly changing world where technology plays an increasing role in students’ everyday lives. This document is specifically aimed at parents and students who are involved in the “KSHS Bring Your Own Device Program” and details the policy, guidelines and support strategies to ensure that students are able to make effective use of their BYOD and avoid any problems.

Installation

There are a couple of steps required to be done on your child’s laptop to ensure adding the device to the school’s network is as efficient as possible.  Please follow the two step by step instruction manuals to ‘Rename your PC’ and ‘Set Up a School Account’ below. This will ensure we can work through the devices as quickly as possible.

To access Microsoft 365 apps:

  • Sign in to Ikon (staff) or Connect (students)
  • Select ‘Webmail’ from the top right of any Ikon page (staff) or select the envelope icon in Connect on the top right corner (students) to access your Department provided webmail.
  • Select the Microsoft App launch icon in the top left corner.
  • Choose the web app icon you want to use.
  • The app will open directly into the next web browser tab.

Web apps offer a more basic version of desktop apps, with most of the features needed for everyday use. Microsoft has made web and desktop apps more similar, and in apps like the new Outlook and OneNote for Windows 10, there is no difference between the web and desktop versions.
